Artist Spotlight: Sophie

We are so grateful for our community of artists. Each individual brings immense talent and passion to the table, and Sophie is no exception. Her work always inspires us and brightens our days, and now weโ€™d like to share it with you.

Sophie Timms wasnโ€™t always an embroidery powerhouse. In fact, just six years ago, she was working as a lawyer. However, lawyering left her feeling burnt out and disconnected, so she decided to wholly embrace her creative vision and become a full-time artist.

Her efforts clearly paid off. Over the course of just six years, Sophie has built Mindful Mantra Embroidery and Bloom Embroidery Academy into big players in the fiber arts world, introducing hundreds of thousands of people to her wonderful patterns and helpful tips. Not only is Sophie an incredible artist, but she is also a talented educator. She offers courses for beginner and advanced stitchers alike, and is dedicated to helping her students learn and grow.

Sophie strives to bring wellness into her work with every stitch. She often shares how embroidery helped her find peace in a chaotic world, and urges her students to slow down and find calm in their work.

The intersection between art and wellness is something weโ€™re incredibly passionate about at O House. Removing yourself from the daily grind and engaging in intentional creation can do wonders for your mind and soul.

We explored this intersection with Sophie when she hosted a retreat with us. Each day began with a wellness session, whether that was yoga, breath work, or meditation. After clearing their minds and engaging in gentle movements, participants dove into their projects renewed and excited.

We loved working with Sophie on a retreat last year, and cannot wait to do it again. Her next retreat, Pattern Design in Portugal: Embroidery, Wellness, and Exploration, is happening this November. Developed for more advanced stitchers, this retreat will walk participants through Sophieโ€™s tried and true methods for designing their own unique patterns. She has only recently begun to teach these skills, and is thrilled to coach more embroiderers in how to level up their game.

We canโ€™t wait to see what creations come of this retreat, and are honored to be working with Sophie again.
