What does an October Retreat Look like in Ericeira?
Slow days, still-warm autumn breezes, and a calmer, more laidback atmosphere… October can be one of Ericeira’s most stunning months, and it’s perfect for retreats or groups.
This October, we hosted two retreats and had a blast with both. The first of the two retreats was Ink & Watercolor, a painting retreat. We kicked off each day at 8 AM with yoga in the courtyard. The group eased into the day with gentle movements amidst the soft light of early morning. The rooster crowed and the sun rose higher, chasing away the autumn chill.
You can still enjoy the beach in October, and many of our retreat participants took full advantage of Ericeira’s stunning coastline. Whether it was a nature walk on seaside cliffs, a quick dip at Praia do Sul, or a day of lounging in the sun, guests made the most of the beach. Plus, they enjoyed far fewer crowds, allowing them to fully relax and recharge.
Another reason why October is a great month to visit is the surfing. The waves are bigger, drawing professionals from around the world. For visitors, this means there are endless opportunities to watch talented surfers tackle some of Ericeira’s famous waves.
The surfing scene was especially exciting during Ink & Watercolor because the World Surf League’s annual competition took place during the retreat. We headed to Ribeira d’Ilhas to experience the atmosphere of a professional surf competition, and it was a truly memorable excursion.
We wrapped up most days with dinner in the courtyard. Although we could tell that summer was over as the colder nighttime temperatures set in, we were still comfortable wrapped up with cozy blankets. Candles flickered around the courtyard and we traded stories late into the night. On the last evening, we celebrated the retreat with a warming bonfire.
That’s not all that makes October great; it’s also the perfect time for cozy art workshops inside the hotel. There’s nothing better than wrapping your hands around a hot cup of tea and getting creative on an autumn afternoon. This month, our retreats enjoyed watercolor workshops, a cooking class, and a soap making workshop.
With options for outdoor exploration and indoor play, October is a lovely month for a retreat. You’ll miss the mad summer rush while still enjoying sunshine. The quieter atmosphere allows for more introspection, which aligns perfectly with art and wellness retreats.
