Building Community, One Brushstroke at a Time

At O House, we are always looking for ways to nurture community and creativity. Our art retreats are one way we do this; bringing people together from around the world for an immersive and transformative week.

Now, we are excited to be adding single day events to the mix, which allows us to celebrate art and make new connections in a different way. Earlier this month, we hosted a two-hour watercolor workshop at O House. We had a mix of participants, with some coming up from town, and others being guests at O House. Art brought them all together, and they painted as the sun set over the hills.

Olivia, a local watercolor artist, taught the class. She brings expertise and contagious energy to the table, helping participants ease into the class and have fun. This class was themed around nature, so each participant painted a plant. As the wind shook the eucalyptus leaves just outside, participants brought their own leaves to life on paper.

They munched on charcuterie and shared wine and stories as the evening went on. By the end of the class, they were all so comfortable that it was hard to leave; some guests even stayed late to simply paint and enjoy the summer evening.

Despite being just a few hours long, everyone felt comfortable together. As they painted, they fell into easy conversation. They helped each other with their painting, and all ended up with beautiful pictures. It was everything we strive for at O House: slow paced, creative, mindful, and curious.

We can’t wait to continue our series of local events. Whether you’re a guest at O House, born and raised in Ericeira, or a traveler passing through one of the surf hostels, you are welcome to join us. Unplug for a couple of hours and enjoy the simple pleasures of art, community, and good wine.
